Does the Tesla Model 3 OBD2 Cable Adapter Still Work on the New 2021 Tesla Model 3 Refresh?
In the last quarter of 2020, Tesla has released an updated version of the Tesla Model 3, known as the 2021 Tesla Model 3 Refresh. The Refresh model has undergone a number of tweaks that made it run faster and longer, and more efficient than the previous models.
The video below from TESLAPEG shows a head-to-head comparison of the changes made to the 2021 Tesla Model 3 Refresh:
The main upgrade on the 2021 Tesla Model 3 Refresh is its range. The three available versions of the Model 3 have better battery lives than the older models. The 2021 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Refresh model can now run up to 353 miles, a 30-mile increase from the previous model. On the other hand, the 2021 Tesla Model 3 Performance Refresh model can now drive up to 315 miles from 299 miles of range on the previous. While the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus Refresh model can drive up to 263 miles from 250 miles. The Tesla Model 3 Refresh model is also faster. It can now hit from 0-60 mph in just 3.1 seconds.
The main reason for the increase in the mileage range of the new 2021 Tesla Model 3 Refresh is its big improvement on its heat pump. Tesla equipped the new model with a heat pump system that was only previously available on the Tesla Model Y. The heat pump system offers a more efficient way of providing heat compared to the wire-based heating system. In a heat pump system, the heat is transferred from the system rather than generated. This is three times more efficient, especially in cold weather wherein more heat is needed to be produced.
Now, on the question of whether the OBD2 cable adapter for the older Model 3 versions functions on the new Refresh model, the answer is yes. Although Tesla has added some major tweaks on the 2021 Model 3 Refresh, most of the system and the inner wirings associated with the OBD2 functions are essentially the same.
