Here’s the Step-by-Step Guide on How to Install Ford Cabin Air Filter:
Tools and Materials Needed:
- New cabin air filter (ensure it's the correct filter for your specific year and model of Ford F-150)
- Small flathead screwdriver (optional)
- Clean cloth (optional)
- Gloves (optional)
Step 1: Locate the Cabin Air Filter Compartment
For most Ford F-150 models (2015 and newer), the cabin air filter is located behind the glove box.
- Open the glove box: Start by opening the glove box fully to give you access to the area behind it.
- Clear out contents: Remove any items that may be inside the glove box to avoid them getting in the way during the procedure.
Step 2: Remove the Glove Box
- Locate the stops on the sides of the glove box: These are plastic clips that prevent the glove box from falling all the way out.
-
Release the glove box stops:
- Push in on the sides of the glove box to release the plastic stops.
- Gently lower the glove box past its stops, allowing it to hang downward, exposing the cabin air filter compartment behind it.
Step 3: Remove the Cabin Air Filter Cover
- Look for the cabin air filter cover: Behind the glove box, you'll see a rectangular plastic cover.
- Unclip the cover: Use your hands or a flathead screwdriver to release the plastic clips or tabs securing the cover. Some Ford models may have screws that you need to remove.
- Remove the cover: Once unclipped, gently pull the cover off to expose the cabin air filter.
Step 4: Remove the Old Cabin Air Filter
- Remove the old filter: Pull the old cabin air filter out of its compartment. Be careful not to spill any debris or dirt that may be trapped in the filter.
- Note the orientation of the filter: Pay attention to how the old filter is positioned. The new filter will need to be inserted in the same direction.
Step 5: Clean the Filter Compartment (Optional)
- Wipe down the area: Before inserting the new filter, it’s a good idea to clean out any debris from the filter compartment. You can use a soft cloth or a vacuum to clear out any dust, leaves, or dirt.
Step 6: Install the New Cabin Air Filter
- Insert the new filter: Take the new cabin air filter and insert it into the compartment. Make sure it matches the orientation of the old filter (usually marked with an airflow arrow).
- Ensure it’s seated properly: Gently press the filter into place, ensuring that it fits snugly and doesn’t leave any gaps.
Step 7: Reattach the Cabin Air Filter Cover
- Put the cover back on: Once the new filter is installed, reattach the plastic cover by snapping it back into place or securing it with screws, depending on your model.
- Ensure it's secure: Make sure the cover is tightly fastened to prevent any air from bypassing the filter.
Step 8: Reinstall the Glove Box
- Lift the glove box back into position: Reinstall the glove box by lifting it back up and securing the sides with the plastic clips.
- Close the glove box: Once the glove box is back in place, close it to complete the installation.
Step 9: Test the New Filter
- Turn on the car: Start your vehicle and turn on the air conditioning or heater to make sure air is flowing properly through the cabin air filter.
- Check for any unusual sounds or airflow issues: Ensure that the air is flowing smoothly and there are no odd noises, indicating the filter may not be properly seated.
Tips:
- Filter Type: Make sure the new cabin air filter matches the specifications of your vehicle (e.g., size, model). You can find this information in the owner’s manual or on the packaging of the replacement filter.
- When to Replace: Ford recommends changing the cabin air filter every 15,000 to 30,000 miles, or more frequently if you drive in dusty or polluted environments.
- Keep the area clean: While the glove box is out, it's a good time to give it a quick wipe-down to remove any dust or grime that may have accumulated over time.
