What you Need to Know about the New Standard OBD II Port for 2017+ BMW Motorcycles
Starting January 1, 2017, all new vehicles and motorcycle sold in Europe must comply with the Euro 4 emission standards. Part of the requirement of the Euro 4 standard is the change to J1962 (OBD-II) type of diagnostic connector. This means that the 10-pin round diagnostic connector for BMW bikes is no longer compatible with newer BMW motorcycles produced since 2017. If you own a diagnostic tool with a 10-pin round connector, you will need an adapter to connect it to the OBD-II diagnostic port of the new generation of EU4-compliant BMW motorcycles.
