How to Troubleshoot your OHP ELM327 OBD2 USB Device

Your Windows operating system should be able to recognize the OHP ELM327 OBD2 USB device as soon as you connect the device to your OBD-II port and your computer. This blog will lay out the steps on how to diagnose your OHP ELM327 OBD2 USB device and check if it's working properly.

Step 1. Plug the device to your vehicle's OBD-II port and connect the USB cable to your computer's USB port. 

Did your computer recognize the USB device? 

If Yes, proceed to Step 2.

If No, manually install the device drivers by following this guide. Proceed to Step 2 when the issue is resolved, if not contact support@ohptools.com for assistance. 

Step 2. The OHP ELM327 OBD2 USB device works best using the FORScan software. 

Have you downloaded the FORScan software?

If Yes, proceed to Step 3.

If No, download the latest version of the FORScan software here. Then proceed to Step 3. 

Step 3. The FORScan software was primarily designed for Windows computers.

Are you using a Windows computer?

If Yes, proceed to Step 4.

If No, for MAC users, check out these guides. Then proceed to Step 4.

Step 4. You need to have the FORScan Extended License in order to unlock the full features of the FORScan software.

Have you obtained the FORScan Extended License?

If Yes, proceed to Step 5.

If No, follow this guide. Then proceed to Step 5.

Step 5. Run FORScan and click on the gear button to apply the FORScan recommended connection settings.

Have you applied the FORScan recommended connection settings?

If Yes, proceed to Step 6.

If No, check out this guide. Then proceed to Step 6.

Step 6. Click on the connect button to connect the FORSCan software to your vehicle. Let the system load all your modules. Flip between the MS-CAN and HS-CAN switch of the device to navigate your modules.

Were you able to connect the FORScan software to your vehicle and access your modules?

If Yes, it means that your device is working properly. Proceed to Step 7.

If No, follow this guide. Proceed to Step 7 if all issues are resolved. If you can't access your modules while flipping the MS-CAN and HS-CAN switch, you may have received a device with a faulty switch. Please contact support@ohptools.com for assistance.
